O.C. tweatup explores foods of Vietnam

Armed with their smart phones and cameras along with their discerning-yet-adventurous appetites, 22 foodies converged on Little Saigon in Orange County, Calif.

Xanh Bistro, a modern Vietnamese neighborhood restaurant across from Mile Square Park, was the perfect setting to serve up morsels of information on the increasingly popular cuisine. This special event was the third installment of the gathering of foodies and social media users exploring the flavors of Little Saigon.

Here is a music slideshow of the dining experience.

Chef Haley Nguyen delighted the group of Southern California professionals with how Little Saigon — stretching across the cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Santa Ana and Fountain Valley — got its start and its rapid ascent to now boast the largest Vietnamese community outside of Southeast Asia.

Chef Haley also shared her insights into the history of the Vietnamese people and why the diverse cuisine is becoming wildly popular throughout the world.

Besides the light and complex flavors of the food, a highlight was the chef’s demonstration of how to make Vietnamese spring rolls. Following these simple tips, anyone with a steady hand can make these delicate and healthy appetizers.
