Mini Homes with Big Hearts

I met up with some of Orange County’s biggest hearts at the Irvine Spectrum for a unique fundraiser — Project Playhouse 2010.

The Thursday evening gathering next to the iconic ferris wheel at the Irvine Spectrum was organized by Carolyn J. Baker of HomeAid Orange County, a nonprofit that tirelessly works to build homes for homeless families.

I toured some playhouses with incredible details. I felt like a kid again, but thought about the mission of the nonprofit.
“HomeAid believes every individual has worth and human dignity and deserves the basic provision of shelter as a necessity of life,” the organization’s website reads. “In addition, as citizens of this nation, we have a civic and moral responsiblity to better the lives of others by sharing with others the gifts and talents we possess.”
Thanks to the generosity of Orange County’s top organizations, the playhouses will be auctioned for money that will be used to build homes for families in need.
Thanks to Rochelle Veturis for helping with the event along with all of these Twitter friends who attended to show their love for Orange County community:

If you attended the event, please share your thoughts. What was your favorite playhouse?
If you missed the preview, you can still catch the fun little playhouses with big hearts at the Irvine Spectrum until September.

Good to see you there Ted! I loved the houses, they are so unique it’s hard to choose a favorite :) The amazing thing is to think of all the hours of labor that went into each of the 7 houses, a true labor of love to benefit the homeless through HomeAid Orange County.
Treat yourself to this wonder and make a difference in the lives of our homeless neighbors!

What a great recap Ted. I love your interviews and mini-tour of the playhouses. You and Carolyn Baker looked like old friends; isn’t she fantastic? I want to thank you again for coming out to support Project Playhouse. As best we try to convey the magic in pictures and written content, the playhouses are so much better in person. HomeAid is such an incredible organization, and your support means the world. Hope you get some rest this weekend; you’ve been burning both ends of the rope and the O.C. social media community is grateful. BTW, love your new website Ted. Major kudos.

Ted, Thank you, thank you, thank you for covering HomeAid Orange County’s Project Playhouse. Your support is helping raise funds to build safe, secure, stable homes for homeless men, women and children in our community. It is huge that your are using the power of social media to build awareness of a population in our community that are often forgotten or ignored – homeless families and individuals.
    Again, thank you,
    Carolyn

Love it, Ted! Thank you for profiling Project Playhouse and the great houses that will be auctioned off to benefit HomeAid Orange County. I hope everyone comes out for the auction or at least buys a raffle ticket for the Opportunity Drawing house! :)

    Best,
    Jane
